Final Round - Sunday, March 1, 2020

Young talents from all over the world are invited to participate in the 2020 Glissando International Youth Piano Competition. The Competition Finals will take place at the Steinway Piano Gallery San Diego, 9222 Miramar Road, San Diego, CA 92126.

AGE CATEGORIES

​

Category A: <9 years old

​​

Category B: 10 - 12 years old

​​

Category C: 13 - 15 years old

​

Category D: 16 - 22 years old

​

COMPETITION ROUNDS

​

The Competition consists of two stages:

Preliminary round - Online auditions based on video recordings

Final Round - LIve auditions at Steinway Piano Gallery, San Diego

​

RULES AND REGULATIONS​

​​

  • Application Deadline - February 7, 2020. Application is closed.

  • The online application form, application fee, and preliminary round video (YouTube link) have to be submitted simultaneously.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • No edited or modified videos allowed for the Preliminary Round.

  • The Finalists will be announced on February 17, 2020.

  • All compositions must be performed by memory during all the rounds, including the Preliminary Round video recording.

  • Participants are allowed to use compositions from online Preliminary Round repertoire in their Final Round performances.

  • The posted time limit should be taken to consideration by the applicants when selecting the repertoire. The applicants whose live performance will exceed posted time limit by more than 1 min will be stopped.

  • No simplified or shortened versions of any compositions are allowed. 

  • All the winners must attend the Award Ceremony to receive the prizes.

  • All the decisions of the adjudicators are FINAL.

  • Jury reserves the right to:​

    • not to award any of the prizes; 

    • to split a prize between several contestants; 

    • to stop any performance which exceeds posted time limits or does not meet professional standards; 

    • to disqualify any candidate who does not comply with any of Competition’s regulations, norms of social behavior, State of California and Federal laws of the United States.

REPERTOIRE

 

Preliminary Round - Online:

​

Time limit - 15 min maximum duration for all categories.

1. One work to be selected from Baroque, Classical or Romantic periods.

2. Free choice of repertoire.

​

Final Round - LIve:

​

Category A: Time limit - 10 min maximum duration. 

Free choice of repertoire.

​

Category B: Time limit - 12 min maximum duration. 

Free choice of repertoire.

​

Category C: Time limit - 18 min maximum duration. 

1. One work by Frederic Chopin.

2. Free choice of repertoire.

​

Category D: Time limit - 20 min maximum duration. 

1. One virtuosic Etude by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Ligeti, Prokofiev, Kapustin, Debussy, or Lyapunov.

2. One work by Frederic Chopin.

3. Free choice of repertoire.

$4000 in cash prizes 

​

To pay tributes to the great Polish composer Frédéric Chopin on his 210th birthday March 1, the Jury will award a Special Prize for the best performance of a composition by Chopin.
